Getting Real: Life Lately

I have been absent again, I know.  But the last three days I have spent driving for my road test.  At my school, there are three teachers you could get assigned to.  I, unfortunately, for anyone who knows the teachers, got Coach Rice.  He is a very tough cookie.  And he scares me to death.

One example of why I call him a tough cookie is because he asked me (as I was driving on the freeway), "How much was that iced tea on the sign?" ... I couldn't tell him.  So while driving I started to watch the signs.  "What color was the writing on the hat on the side of the road?" ... again, I could not answer.  "What did you just pass on the side of the road?"  and I could finally give him the right answer!  It was a tractor for sale. "What color was the napkin sitting next to it?"  ... are you kidding me?! The writing and the napkin were both blue for those who were curious.

Today was my final day, and the day of the actual test.  I was convinced  I was going to fail and to tell you the truth, I completely blacked out.  I could not tell you what I did right or wrong.  I cannot remember what I did!  And... guess what?  I passed!  I get my license on Monday (:

Getting Real: Life Lately

It's Summer everyone!  Life could not get better...or lazier!  I have to confess that I haven't done much.  At all.  I have been sleeping in (that is very scary for me)!  I spend my days watching America's Next Top Model marathons (my favorite of all time is Allison Harvard).

At least I have started a new project to say I am at least doing something.  I am crocheting a giant granny square blanket!  As I have mentioned before, I taught myself how to crochet when I made my backpack (I finished crocheting it, I just need a machine with a button foot for the lining)!  I love to crochet, but I can't do much.  I cannot read patterns and I can almost assure you that I am doing something wrong.  So if there are friends or family out there that are willing to teach, I would be very happy to learn!

I am taking an AP art class next year!  Basically that means I am taking a college-level drawing class that I get college credit for in high school!  The hard part is getting myself back into drawing because I have to do five sketches/drawings a week.  I haven't drawn a real drawing in ages!  I will admit that I am good when I try, it is just finding the inspiration and my own style to get going.
Can I just say right now, that it was so windy before I left for St. George?  I just took a funny picture of Harley standing in the wind.  I don't think she likes it either.

Getting Real- My Blog.

So, I am sure you noticed my blog's makeover.  If you didn't you need glasses. I was just getting so very frustrated with the last look, so I started over with a blank blog.  The old background and header weren't right for my liking.  I was really happy the new look!  The new header was the name of my vintage shop I am working on, and the colors were bright fun.  My mom told me that she liked it when blogs had music, so I tried that.  I will be the first to admit-Bad. Idea.  It drove me nuts.  Do not worry, it is gone.  The first thing I did every time I got onto my blog was mute it.

Adding on, I guess my new look was not as well loved as I had hoped, and people didn't like it as much as I did.  My mom and grandparents said that they liked the old one better.  Ouch.  I won't lie, that one comment hurt pretty bad.  I thought the blog looked amazing.  I was finally satisfied with it, and thought it did not need any more work.

I guess that I have realized that I just can't please everyone.  Everyone has their own opinion.  I will still be sad people do not love the blog.  So please forgive me if I mess around with the style some more.  Give it some time.  I do want people's opinions, but they will always be more welcome with more positive hints, I guess.  Once I get a new look, I really want to keep it though.  I hate changing it so much.  I want people to get associated with the look and to recognize it.  I am not sure what I am trying to say.  This just seems to be more of a venting post.  I am not asking for compliments.  I really do not want people's pity.  Let's just call this a diary page on my blog.

Ten Things You May (not) Know About Me

You probably know by now that I am a girly-girl, and I love photography. You probably also know that I have an incredibly large love for anything vintage. I wanted to share some things about myself that you might not have known until now.

  1. I have a great love for light pink hair. I love things that stand out, and I am not afraid to be different. Pink hair fits both of these two short descriptions. I think it is girly and pretty. It also says that you should not be afraid to be yourself (no matter how crazy)!

  2. I am constantly striving to be a better person. I go through a lot of self-evaluations and small steps every day. I want to be seen as a kind and good person.

  3. Believe it or not-I used to be the ultimate tom-boy. It was jeans or sweatpants with a T-shirt and jacket every day. Yikes. I was completely against anything with ruffles or pink. Crazy, right?

  4. I am in love with hiphop. I love to dance. I do not do ballet, jazz, or lyrical. I am strictly hip hop. I love the strong beats and big movements!

  5. I cannot tie a nice-looking bow for my life. You would think by now I would have mastered that simple action, but no. They always end up lopsided. My mom laughs at me everytime I wear a blouse that ties before she fixes it.

  6. I am a giant bookworm. When I get into a book, reading is all I will do for six hours straight, leave a quick break to eat, and get back to more reading. I read six-hundred page books in less than two days from cover to cover.

  7. Curling my hair is something I continue to fail at. The curls do not stay or look right. Lucky for me, I have a hair styling mom to make amazing curls any time I feel the need to have pretty hair. Do not judge. No one is perfect.

  8. I am an early bird. I wake up at 5am every day during the week, and try to be up at 7am or earlier on weekends. I also go to bed before 10pm. Staying up late is not one of my talents.

  9. I am an artist. I do not like to say that often because I feel like I am bragging or saying that I think highly of myself. I used to draw constantly and I improved because of it. As of late, I haven't hardly drawn at all and it shows. I am currently working on getting back into the habbit.

  10. I am known for my handwriting. People say it looks like something that was just printed or caligraphy. It used to be messy and ugly, so one day I sat myself down for hours and just wrote over and over again. Now, it is pretty and my next task at hand is cursive. I know it is silly because we all spent the later years of elementary writing everything in cursive, but I cannot remember a darn thing. I can sign my name, and that is just about it.

I hope that this has entertained or possibly helped you get to know me better!

Getting Real: Healthy Eating

I am not going to lie. I struggled with my new lifestyle in the beginning(and I still do sometimes). Just to give you an example of how I used to eat, I'll tell you what Alli and I ate for lunch once:

  • Totinos frozen pizza

  • 12Frozen chicken nuggets

  • tater tots

  • french fries

  • 4 breadsticks

We split this. Pretty bad, hu? Want to hear the worst part? We ate the entire thing. No left overs. So yes, I anticipated this to be my worst nightmare. I had tried "eating healthy" and diets before but they lasted for a solid two days to a week and a half. I would lose what I wanted, then gain it back plus more in the next two weeks. But this is going to be about my current success. I have been going for sometime around three weeks. I keep a food journal with me and write down everything. I am on day fifteen.

I have of course, caved in. cough six brownies cough. That wasnt all I ate, but you get the idea. That birthday party I thought was going to be my downfall. But the next morning I moved on and continued my healthy eating. It isn't super hard now. I have rice chex or oatmeal for breakfast with a grapefruit, eat carrots and celery for a snack, take a sandwich with whole wheat bread for lunch with apples, and have dinner with a grapefruit. The grapefruit gets your metabolism going so you can burn more calories with your meal. I'm just now learning to count calories and add them up for the entire day. I am learning about servings, and what snacks to eat over others. It makes me feel good, knowing that I am changing my life in a positive way.

When Lauren and I have a craving or see a fast food commercial, we talk about how much we hate that food. For example: today at the gas station Lauren found pop-tarts. We love them-very much. We just shook our heads and discussed how icky they taste when you microwave them. Their yummy- I mean nasty, gooey center gets all over everything you touch and it is a pain to lick off your fingers.

I love these things so much! This is what I had for dinner tonight. I loved them before my new lifestyle, and it is nice to have comfort food to get me through this!

Don't they look delicious!? They were. Ready for this? around 295 calories. I still break the ever important rule of stop when you are full. I was full 3/4 of the way through the burger, but ate the rest. And felt sick after. I will work on this.

If anyone wants to start a healthy lifestyle, I recomend looking at this blog! She is such a huge inspiration, and I read it daily! Be sure to check out her before and after! Also, if anyone has good advice or websites, I would love to see them!

Getting Real

Lauren and I have made a goal together. We are exercising and eating healthy. Maybe it is somewhat about weight loss, maybe some of it is about a healthier lifestyle. Either way, we are doing it together. This makes it easier for support and to keep going! I don't have an active lifestyle anymore. I don't do cheer like I used to in jr. high, and I stopped dancing in classes and teams. I realise that I am not big, but I have gained a little weight, and lost muscle. Well, I have been doing this for about two weeks and let me tell you: I see improvements already! I have gotten stronger, and have more stanima. (and dropped a few pounds!)

I will for sure post more about this soon! Wish us luck!
