What I Wore: Seal Christmas Party!
Eating healthy was put on pause yesterday. One-because I needed my free meal of the week. Two-because I want to put a little weight back on. Three- because the salad had chocolate in it, the potatoes had extra cheese, and the rolls were the size of mini loafs of bread. Oh ya, and there was the world's best dessert. I must have had eight servings. I was so sick from eating so much of that incredible food!
There is a cousin gift exchange that we do every year, and I got the greatest presents ever! My aunt Heather and cousin Hadley gave me a vintage jewelry set! Earings, necklaces, and a pin! They are so beautiful! You can bet I wore them today!
My grandpa and grandma gave me a scarf that must be the softest thing I have ever felt, and a vintage purse that I am dying over. It is so perfect! It is so hard to believe that she found it in the DI. Some people are must be crazy to let things like that go.
I am so grateful for being able to spend the night hanging out with my family and sitting on the couch with my grandpa after I got a sick from eating so much food my body isn't used to anymore. I hope every one gets to spend time with their extended family this season!
Love, love,
Oakley

Its the Little Things...
- Like dinner last night with the family! I had fun!
- After dinner we went to Ulta, DSW, and Nordstrom Rack. Pink. Sparkly. Heels. I want them so bad for Christmas!
- Staying caught up on my blog!
- Shopping for the final project in sewing. It is one of my old vintage dress patterns! It is going to be amazing!
- Starting a new book-Beastly. I loved the movie, so I grabbed the book in the library. It is completely different!
- I have a family party tomorrow, and I am so excited to see everyone!

Ten Things You May (not) Know About Me
You probably know by now that I am a girly-girl, and I love photography. You probably also know that I have an incredibly large love for anything vintage. I wanted to share some things about myself that you might not have known until now.
I hope that this has entertained or possibly helped you get to know me better!
- I have a great love for light pink hair. I love things that stand out, and I am not afraid to be different. Pink hair fits both of these two short descriptions. I think it is girly and pretty. It also says that you should not be afraid to be yourself (no matter how crazy)!
- I am constantly striving to be a better person. I go through a lot of self-evaluations and small steps every day. I want to be seen as a kind and good person.
- Believe it or not-I used to be the ultimate tom-boy. It was jeans or sweatpants with a T-shirt and jacket every day. Yikes. I was completely against anything with ruffles or pink. Crazy, right?
- I am in love with hiphop. I love to dance. I do not do ballet, jazz, or lyrical. I am strictly hip hop. I love the strong beats and big movements!
- I cannot tie a nice-looking bow for my life. You would think by now I would have mastered that simple action, but no. They always end up lopsided. My mom laughs at me everytime I wear a blouse that ties before she fixes it.
- I am a giant bookworm. When I get into a book, reading is all I will do for six hours straight, leave a quick break to eat, and get back to more reading. I read six-hundred page books in less than two days from cover to cover.
- Curling my hair is something I continue to fail at. The curls do not stay or look right. Lucky for me, I have a hair styling mom to make amazing curls any time I feel the need to have pretty hair. Do not judge. No one is perfect.
- I am an early bird. I wake up at 5am every day during the week, and try to be up at 7am or earlier on weekends. I also go to bed before 10pm. Staying up late is not one of my talents.
- I am an artist. I do not like to say that often because I feel like I am bragging or saying that I think highly of myself. I used to draw constantly and I improved because of it. As of late, I haven't hardly drawn at all and it shows. I am currently working on getting back into the habbit.
- I am known for my handwriting. People say it looks like something that was just printed or caligraphy. It used to be messy and ugly, so one day I sat myself down for hours and just wrote over and over again. Now, it is pretty and my next task at hand is cursive. I know it is silly because we all spent the later years of elementary writing everything in cursive, but I cannot remember a darn thing. I can sign my name, and that is just about it.
I hope that this has entertained or possibly helped you get to know me better!

Guest Post: Cancer, Diet & You
I was lucky enough to receive an email from Leroy Templeton offering to write a guest post on eating healthy. It is something that has become very important to me, so maybe others will be inspired to start new eating habits too! And so Leroy, take it away!
Healthy eating… good, right? No doubt. It helps you maintain a healthy weight, get extra energy and even sleep better, but did you know it can help you fight cancer? Now I know cancer is a pretty heavy subject. I’m sure everyone at least knows someone who has been affected by it and yeah, maybe it’s not the most fun thing to talk about, but if we can spread a little awareness every now and then, maybe we’ll be able to lower the amount of people who can say they’ve been affected by it…
As I mentioned earlier, the amount of importance diet has on cancer diagnosis is surprisingly high. Studies have shown that as much as 30% of all cancer diagnosis can be attributed to diet. That’s almost one third!! A lot of that comes from eating unhealthy foods. Now in order to help prevent any undesirable consequences, I thought I would let you know what foods to avoid in order to promote a “cancer-free” diet. So without any further ado….
The Top 5 Cancer-Causing Foods (A.K.A. “aww bummer, I really like those”)
5) Processed Meats
Often high in sodium and nitrates, which contribute to increased risk of heart disease and cancer. Maybe opt for organic peanut butter and jelly for your next sandwich?
4) Chips, Crackers and Cookies
These snacks almost always contain trans-fats, even when the label says otherwise. As trans-fats have a hard time being broken down and processed in the body these snacks upset the natural chemical balance of the body and thus the cell growth and division process. Not a good look.
3) Red Meat
Tasty, but bad for you. Studies are now showing a connection between red meats and colon cancer. On top of that, they are usually marbled with animal fat which contains high amounts of carcinogens.
2) French Fries
They are fried in hydrogenated oils. They also contain high amounts of cancer causing carcinogens and acryl amides which have been known to lead to gastric cancer and peritoneal mesothelioma.
1) Doughnuts
I think they’re delicious, but these fellas are made with white flour, synthetic sugars and hydrogenated oils. That’s, like, the Legion of Doom of cancer causing ingredients. Yikes.
Now this list is not meant to scare you or freak you out in any way. It’s not that if you eat these foods your will instantly get cancer. That would be ridiculous. However, it may be good idea to monitor your intake of these and other unhealthy foods. If you’re the type that can suddenly put back an entire bag of Lays or house a dozen Krispy Kremes without much thought (I know I was at one point), then you might wanna know exactly what you’re exposing yourself to. Besides, limiting some of these bad foods definitely wouldn’t hurt come next swimsuit season.
If you’re looking for good foods to eat, while staying away from the aforementioned cancer-causing foods, then look no further than these foods. Below is a list of foods that can help burn fat while keeping you full and healthy!
• Eggs – Eggs are a great way to start your day. When eaten in the a.m. they work to kick start your metabolism, allowing your body to process foods quicker and more efficiently. Also, they have the capacity to emulsify fat which, in case you were sick that day of biology class, means that it can break down fatty cells at an accelerated rate.
• Tomatoes – Really good for you if they’re eaten raw. They help accelerate metabolism and fight cancer. Just try not to eat them when they’re fried, because the frying process adds toxic properties.
• Green Tea – Okay, so it’s technically not a food, but it can still help. Green tea is not only a great antioxidant, but it can also increase your metabolism by 30%! And when you’re drinking that tea make sure to. . .
• Substitute Sugar with Honey – It might not taste exactly the same, but it’s pretty darn close. Honey mobilizes fatty cells, increasing metabolism. As an added bonus, it helps you to eat less sugar, which is almost always stored as pure fat.
So, there you have it, foods to avoid and foods to seek out. It’s a pretty simple list. Try to stay away from the bad foods and try to seek out the good ones. I promise, you’ll see results.
